What is an Energy Audit?
A home energy audit is the first step to improving the overall efficiency of your home. An audit will help you identify ways to improve your home's overall comfort and efficiency, saving you money on your utility bills.
As a certified EnerGuide specialist, I will evaluate your home's energy performance and help you determine how much energy your home uses, where your home is inefficient, and which problem areas and fixes you should prioritize to save power and improve the comfort of your house.
The first step is an on-site evaluation where the following tasks and information will be collected:
A blower door test to measure air leakage and identify opportunities to increase air tightness
An assessment of existing insulation levels and enclosure details, such as windows, doors, etc.
Identification of mechanical and electrical system efficiencies and forecast consumption of gas and electrical
This information is then computer-modelled to provide you with an EnerGuide rating and homeowners report detailing operating costs, greenhouse gas emissions, and an estimate of your annual energy consumption.
Next, a renovation upgrade report recommends upgrades that will most impact your home’s overall efficiency and help you determine where to prioritize your budget.
Your report is a personalized roadmap that includes:
A list of recommended upgrades and energy-saving results
A breakdown of your energy usage
Before and after charts showing heat loss by building component
Your EnerGuide home rating before and after recommended upgrades
Tips for saving energy
These recommendations can help you decide which upgrades to prioritize in your budget to save energy.
